June happens

Wow this month flew by.  Normally I would say that shit happens, but this time it was all June.  June brings the summertime, and all of the heat and humidity that comes with it.  If it didn't feel like summertime before, it does now, and that is always depressing in this part of the country.  The heat is repressive here and it gives me Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD disease.  I know, most parts of the country only get this during the winter.  But when your skin singes when you hit sunlight, that's a bit absurd.  The humidity is here too.  Today (June 30) had a high of 83*, but when you factor in the humidity it "feels like" about 1583*, or like walking on the surface of the sun.

June 2013
Swim: 23,150 meters, 9 swims, 2 races
Bike: 415 miles, 15 rides, 2 races
Run: 83.2 miles, 13 runs, 2 races
Strength: 3 times
Yoga: 4 times

I got a bit more consistent on the yoga and strength training at least once a week.  The 2 races were the Ironman Raleigh 70.3 and 3 Little Pigs Sprint, both triathlons.  23k in the pool is great.  I really think I'm going to be ok only swimming twice a week and skipping the Saturday practice.  415 miles on the bike is known as a "shit-ton" in triathlete lingo.  Sure, it's kind of auspicious that the month ended on a Sunday so I got to count that weekend's long ride and long run in June's totals.  The coolest thing about hitting 83 miles on the run is that 3 of those runs were over 13 miles.

IM Raleigh was one of my "A" races for the year.  Everything before that was gearing me for a faster half iron  than what the day actually allowed for (stupid heat).  But that also meant no long runs over about 13 or 14 miles, and from now until my next "A" race (Beach 2 Battleship full iron) there are no long runs under 13 miles.  I've got 20 more days until the build phase begins, so 3 more weeks of base building should be enough to get me there.

Even this one!

Another solid week.  This is Base 19 (out of a 22 week base phase), and week 21 of Ironman training. It contained 6600 meters in the pool, 145 miles on the bike, and 27 miles of running.  Total is around 13 hours 35 minutes of training time.  And again those distances add up to over the distance of an ironman.  The Ironweek as a training goal is a very effective mental tool.  This was a really solid week.

Also worth noting this week is that we got back Big Brother, Dexter, and the Tour de France back on TV.  BB has got a great cast going this year, and it's the last season of Dexter, and the 100th edition of Le Tour.  Vive Le Tour!

This raises my Cast Iron Club totals up to 27.26 swims, 17.4 bikes, and 14.69 marathon runs.  Only 7 more running miles and I'm halfway there.

How was your June?

Monday morning update: The MMNW came in at 183.1 lbs and 22.1% body fat. Seriously getting pissed off now that I'm not under 180 and 20%.  Can't/won't go into the build phase this heavy. Should be around 175 and 18% by now.

Maybe I missed the post where you mentioned it, but what is this spreadsheet you are using?

Great totals! I've been following the Ironman training of another blogger and I am just so blown away by the weekly numbers. I need to start swimming to I can add realistically an Ironman to my goal list...

We've been hitting some record breaking days in the 100s and it's driving me nuts, but I can't imagine dealing with humidity so I'm glad we don't have that! Hopefully this is just helping you so that race day will feel super easy with great weather :-)

You had a really strong month! You are really kicking butt on the training front.

I actually thought the summer heat would be worse than it has been. I was expecting over 100 degree weather so I am a little bit pleasantly surprised. But I don't love the non-stop humidity!

Great job! I don't know how you do it in the heat/humidity/surface of the sun! We had temps over 100 last week and I was not a happy camper!

Note re MMNW: What has your diet been like lately?
