Got in some decent speedwork last night. I ended up working late and a thunder cloud came through, so my planned swim went out the door. Instead I did quarter mile speedy intervals at 8.2 or 8.3 speeds, 3.5 miles total. I did yoga and weights yesterday too. Nothing unusual there, felt fine.
Got a before and after picture of the house, now that the painters are done.
This is a very before picture, as in before we moved in. Kelley is still pregnant with Bigun here, there's not even a garage door hung. We put $20k in interior renovations before moving in, and I am so freaking glad we're finally (4 years later) able to start working on the exterior.
Notice the brown shingles are original 1973 I think, and the brown siding, brown brick, and brown trim. All of this brown made the house look like shit, I think.
The after pic shows the new black shingles on the roof (thank you hail damage and insurance), and the green paint and Toasted Almond trim color are the same colors we used on the mountain house. Now I'm finally ready to start landscaping the front yard. I'm sure the neighbors are ready for that too.

the house looks great!
nothing sez home more than a place you put a little blood (money) sweat (money) and tears (more money) into...
:-)
WOW, looks like a different place! Nice!
Doesn't even look like the same house! It's amazing what a little paint will do.
WOW...before reading the post i thought the first pic was your CURRENT house...yikes!
All those changes you made sure look good, but I think the biggest change was the removal of the leaves from the driveway. Nicely done there too.
I like it better in the before picture.
But then what do I know? I USE A MAC!1! Use it? I worship it!1!
We had to wait about 10 years before we had the scratch to fix the outside of our house because, early on, when we first moved in, a pipe burst underground, right at the curb. A couple inches farther out toward the street and it would have been the boro's problem. (This is what Teh 'Bride means when she says, "A couple inches makes all the different." At least, I think it's what she means.)
Anyroad, it was our problem, and we had to shell out a few thou for the actual plumbing, and then the boro MADE us pay like $1500 more to replace the sidewalk that had to be ripped up to get at the pipe. Saying, "That's all right - we'll live with a dirt sidewalk" was not an option - we tried.
So - the bump-out and the siding had to wait like another decade.
They did finally figure out what caused the pipe to burst: It was the mouse on the Macintosh. The plumbing contractor said, "If only you had sprung for the kind that has right-clicking capabilities this crisis would have been averted." And I believe him because the Micro$oft Plumbing Company never lied to me before.
In conclusion: Nice house.
Wow that doesn't even look like the same place, very nice!
