New Beginnings

There are a lot of new beginnings that I am very thankful for today and I wanted to share them in bullet form:
  • Today is my last day at this current job.  I'm thankful for the opportunities I've had here and proud of the work I did for my clients
  • I know that's not a new beginning, but Monday I get started at IBM and I'm thankful for that fresh start
  • Ultra training is certainly a new start.  I have my plan worked out and it is exciting!  It may only be exciting to me, but it's going to be a wild ride
  • Trail running - I've done some trails before, but regularly getting into the woods for ultra training is a new thing for me. It's new to me, and I'm loving it and thankful that I can run from my house to the trails at Umstead state park
  • Trail Shoes - I never thought too much about hitting gravel in my road shoes, but it felt like running on clouds with that rock plate in the midsole.  I was really shocked at how comfortable that was.
  • I'm thankful that it is finally autumn.  Monday it's only supposed to get up to 79* here, and I always appreciate the 2 weeks of fall we get before winter sets in.  I still think there are some more 90* days to come, but we're at least starting to see cracks in this summer heat.
  • That means more outside running and bike riding.  Since I'll be funemployed friday saturday sunday this weekend I'm really hoping to get in a good long bike ride around Jordan Lake and another good trail run in Umstead.  The bike route is familiar, but the distance and regularity is a new thing.  And it makes me thankful for the part of the state (and city) that we live in.
What are you thankful for today?  Any new beginnings on the horizon?

Where is the best place to park and get on the jordan lake trail? I've looked around online and can never see where to park. Do you know of a good website with a map...thanks! and congrats on your new beginnings :)

I'm grateful for new beginnings as I try a new approach to getting back to my active self, easing in with swim, bike and strength. And potentially more blogging. And some ruminating on a new career.

New beginnings are fab! Are you guys moving or staying put?

I'm heading into the world of marathon. I have my first one coming up very very soon. I've done my longest run of my life of 22 miles last week and have now started to taper off. The rest is in God's hands!
I've once weighed over 300lbs, and as you have the same kind of story, to go from that to now being on the verge of running 26.2 miles....I guess that's another "new" beginning for me!
Good luck on the trails...I love running our local trails, I'll have to look into the shoes though, I just figured it was another way for REI to get more money from me than they already do!

Oooh I didn't know you were ultra training! Totally missed that. Very excited to follow along. An ultra of some sort in the trails is on my bucket list!

I'm definitely jealous of your Umstead proximity.

I think I should prescribe myself a trail run. That sounds like a nice idea this weekend.

Great list of things to be thankful for John! :) And congrats on the new start with the job.

I wish my last two trips to NC weren't as crazy as they were. We stayed right off Creedmoor and most mornings I ran down to Lynne and then to the park off of Lynn and around the Lake. Or we would go on the Crabtree Greenway (I think that's what it's called). Such a great area!

Good luck on the new gig. I just got a promo at work (who woulda thunk it?) and am integrating more peeps into my way of thinking. Frightening on so many levels.

The downside is 15 hour days and travel but that will be hopefully short term.

Good luck with the new gig at IBM! They are lucky to have you! :)

I am glad you are enjoying the trail running.

Let's see, the new beginning for me these days is life at my job without my former boss. I won't sugar coat it - it's rough. I have no back up anymore, which is why I ended up working to despite the fact that I am like deathly ill.

Hurray for trail running! You know that I love it... I am so glad for you that you have trails within walking (running) distance! That makes it so much more likely that you will get out and do it! Good luck! I can't wait to follow your training and I hope you had a great weekend!
