Today is the day that registration opened up and I can't believe I actually got in. I am registered and ready to roll.

Summer of 2008 I ran my first sprint triathlon. I thought those people who did ironmans were fucking insane.

Summer of 2009 I decided that Ironman Florida was the one for me if I ever went fucking insane. Fall 2009 I did the Beach 2 Battleship half and after doing a half I knew I could do the whole thing. I prepared to sign up for IMFL 2010. Kelley wasn't down with that so we agreed to delay for a year, hence the 2010 "Ironman Prep Year".

Prep year done. I still totally freaked out after actually getting in. Ironman is only for the completely fucking insane.

People that sign up for ironman races are, in fact, insane. People that do all the training for them are insane. People that complete them are, no not insane but are ironmen.
We'll join that club in less than a year. SWEET!

I'd suggest getting a condo over a hotel. We stayed at Treasure Island (which is around mile 4 of the marathon). GREAT place for family as they can see you 4 times on the run and have the condo right there for food, potties, warm clothes, etc. Plus it was about $500 for the week - cheaper than most hotels and REALLY nice! Check out VBRO.com for places. Condos are the way to go for sure (ps - just a heads up that I've heard the Boardwalk, although super convenient is VERY loud and distacting).
Closer to the finish the better for the family...especially with kids, and you don't have to hobble very far to go back and watch the midnight finishers.

Get a condo - they are cheap that time of year and most of them along and near the race venue are really nice. I wouldn't stay right by the host hotel, but just down the street so that you are close, but away from the craziness. I'll try to remember where we stayed!
